SONY CLASSICS, 2008
Great souvenir of an unforgettable production.
I thought that I knew this show but I underestimated its impact at the Vivien Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center. There is a real live grand 40+ piece orchestra in the pit that makes the overture take your breadth away and from there it only gets better. The principles are superb and they deserve every award this show has won. Thanks to CD technology, you get a recording of just about all the ...

Tweedy in his prime!!
This movie is amazing, and shows the happy and anoyed side of Tweedy. I have seen Wilco live 5-6 times and Tweedy puts his heart into every show. Anyone who has seen Tweedy/Wilco live knows how easily he can get upset with the crowd when they are not paying attention to the stage. This documentry follows Tweedy accross the US while he is on his solo tour. The selection of live songs is very ...

My Favorite Musical
Remember seeing the movie years ago, and now that I have seen the show playing at Lincoln Center, NYC.....I just had to get this CD. The music and songs are so wonderful and I relive this fantastic play over and over again. This is one of my favorite CDs. Shipping was very fast. Completely satisfied. I had ordered two CDs of South Pacific, one for me and the other for a friend who had seen ...

My First Reaction was "Wow!"
After hearing Pacific Ocean Blue and Bambu for the first time, my immediate reaction was "Wow!" I now have a new-found respect for Dennis Wilson and his talent as a writer/composer. Ranging from raw rock 'n roll to downright beautiful ballads evoking considerable emotion, the songs seem remarkably fresh today despite the fact they were recorded thirty years ago. The only song that seems to ...

SONY CLASSICS, 2009
Magnificent Performance, but, Alas, Poorly Remastered
When I saw that Sony Classics had reissued this CD in May of 2009, I was hoping that it was a new transfer/remastering to compact disc of this enduring and (potentially) magnificent sound recording from 1949. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case. This appears to be the 1998 transfer/remaster, but now packaged in an eco-friendly cardboard digi-pack instead of the old plastic case. ...

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Stellar Performances!
This reading should establish Brian Stokes-Mitchell as the quintessential leading man in musical theater. His rendition of "This Nearly Was Mine" brought the house down -- both in the audience and in my family room! Reba McEntire was perfectly cast as well. If you enjoy musicals, even though this was only a staged reading, you'll love this production!

Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease. I recommend this for those who ...

The last of Tilson Thomas's Mahler cycle is a triumph
Since he enjoys a host of adoring fans in San Francisco -- a perfect match of conductor and community -- MTT has nothing to fear from criticism. Not that he gets much. His Mahler cycle has won more acclaim than I could muster, although the Fifth and Seventh were both high points, and the Das Lied bids fair to be one of the leading versions with two male soloists. Like Boulez, He has chosen to ...

GREAT CD!
I've seen plenty of review for this album, hard to believe nothing is posted yet. This is definitely Tom's best work to date; and the tribute to Wayman Tisdale is wonderful. Thanks Tom!

A good one
I don't think the title or cover does any justice to this very entertaining zoo DVD. We got it for our 2 year old granddaughter and watching it makes you feel like you're at the zoo. The little songs grow on you, and you do end up singing-a-long. We actually enjoy having it on in the background.

A Great Julie Andrews CD
If you are a fan of Dame Julie's and musicals, this is the cd for you. It is a compilation of songs from prevously released albums; The King and I, The Music of Richard Rodgers, Here I'll Stay, and Victor/Victoria, Original Broadway Cast Recording. I found the material to be very well put together giving the listener selections from My Fair Lady, Camelot, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria and ...

A revelation
I received a copy of the current Broadway cast CD of South Pacific, and I was disappointed. Kelli sounds like she is from Scarsdale and Paolo sounds like he is from the Met. I found the supporting cast weak on that CD too. So I searched for the CD of the PBS special, and this CD was a revelation. Reba sounds like she is from Little Rock and that grounds the CD.She sings beautifully in the country ...

Pretty good musical mix
Lots of great and clear vocals. I was looking for a musical mix and this has a nice sampling of many major songs but also some more recent stuff. I haven't purchased an import before but I would do it again if the opportunity presented itself. It is somewhat annoying to have three cds when I think it could have fit onto two. Still, more than I have complaints, I have compliments about it.

Tyler's Mom
My son started watching this at 2 weeks of age. Decided to buy a new DVD for a change, so we bought him a Baby Einstein. The Baby Einstein didn't hold his interest at all compared to this Baby Genius video. He still watches the same video at almost 12 months of age and is still captivated by it. Definitely worth the $10! We are now buying a new Baby Genius DVD for his first birthday.
