Wow
I love both Burt Bacharach and Law and Order, so when I found this in a dollar bin, it was a no-brainer. This is not the hippie rock of Hair or Jesus Christ Superstar, nor is it the old school musical work of Rogers and Hammerstien. Bacarach here creates a pop/torch song based on some traditional broadway sounds, but also on bossa nova and light jazz. There is no straight rock here, but the ...

I love Il Divo
When you like Il Divo, it is difficult to review each album because you approach them positively and are always rewarded for such an attitude. But in this case, if you are hesitating at all, "She" makes the entire album worth buying. It's a beautiful album and "She" is the icing on the cake.
Admiral Fell Promises
Sun Kil Moon
Caldo Verde, 2010
The new album by Sun Kil Moon, entitled 'Admiral Fell Promises' will be released on July 13th, 2010 by Caldo Verde Records. This 60 minute, ten song album is Sun Kil Moon's fourth, but only the third of original material after 2003's 'Ghosts of the Great Highway' and 2008's 'April'. Additionally it is the first that is all acoustic, played entirely by Mark Kozelek on nylon string guitar.

PETTY KEEPING HIS PROMISE!
"Hard Promises" released by Tom Petty in 1981 had the seemingly impossible task of following his 1979 commercial breakthrough "Damn The Torpedoes." What's amazing is that Petty follows up his best work with another classic and finds himself searching deeper with more soul-searching lyrics than before and delivering them with a voice that displays true emotion proving the point that he just may ...

"So it's not "South Pacific", "My Fair Lady", "Gypsy" or "Sweeney Todd", but still..."
My wife and I took our 20-year-old niece to the Saturday matinee performance on June 5 of "Promises, Promises". It was her first ever Broadway show, and she was slightly starry eyed and stage-struck during and after the performance and why not? This show is a good introduction to the world of Broadway musicals for teenagers and young adults. All the elements work starting with a very ...

Good album
The album has so far peaked at #10 on the American iTunes Charts. This counts as something solid. From song one I let it go, I enjoy most of the songs. Great album, nice to listen while driving long trips at night. As for the dvd, it's really nice to see the process behind the recording of a nice record.

Ms. Sade's blues
I used to say that my all time favorite Sade albums were Stronger Than Pride and Love Deluxe. Now I have to add Promise to that list. Released just 9 months after Diamond Life (unfortunately the gap between albums would spread further and further), Promise continues the cool cat jazz of their debut while exploring more Latin and exotic influences. All of these songs give off an air of intimacy. ...

Becky do you remember?
Becky, do remember talking on the phone listening to this record until we fell asleep? I bought you a copy so we could start em at the same time. I thought of you the day John passed away. This music touched me as a kid. And listening to it now, I think that kid had good taste. John Denver was a man of integrity. God calls the good ones home early sometimes.

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Another great Hermie!
This is probably my personal favorite Hermie DVD. Now, I'm the mom - but my daughter loves it, too! I can't imagine giving this DVD only 4 stars...it definitely is well deserving of 5+++! This movie provided a great tool to introduce the concept of lying vs. telling the truth to our 3 year old. At this age, the concept can be a bit difficult, but this movie really brings it down to a kid's ...

Beautiful!
Rich sound of acoustic guitars perfectly balanced with beautiful soft voice and touching melodies, this album is a great addition to Carla's first release (which is more gentle and sofisticated than this one - however, "No Promises" has "catchier" songs). The arrangements on both albums are fantastic - accompanying instruments are naturally blended into Carla's guitar and vocal lines; you are ...

Life Promise Pride Love Deluxe
Sade makes beautiful music and brings them to life in her videos. I usually wouldn't bother getting a dvd of an artist's videos (well maybe Jill Scott), but Sade is an exception. The videos shown here fit to a T with the lyrics and are illustrated beautifully. My top 3 videos are No Ordinary Love, Cherish the Day, and Kiss of Life. No Ordinary Love depicts Sade as a mermaid who ventures from her ...

Great documentary!
Great documentary! I do recommend it to anyone interested in music. It shows how the Venezuelan system of child and youth orchestras promotes classical music among children, motivating and keeping them out of the streets. The system has yielded many professional musicians, playing in different top-level orchestras around the world. This is the case of Gustavo Dudamel, who is now musical director ...

A good family movie
Keeping the Promise is a movie based on the children's novel, Sign of the Beaver, by Elizabeth George Speare. I'm a teacher, so I have my students read the book, then we watch the movie and compare the two. It is a good family movie with a positive message. My students enjoy watching it every year!

Great P&W experience!
I've loved Youthful Praise since day 1. After the last project, I thought it couldn't be better. I was wrong. "Resting On His Promises" didn't dissappoint! I love it from start to finish. I have played it in my car for the last week and I don't see a change in the near future. If you're looking for a special & authentic P&W experience, look no further. Thanks Youthful Praise!

Bubble Puppy

Don't Let Anyone Burst Your Bubble....
Oh sure, a lot of band names from the 1960's seem silly now. And to be fair, sometimes the music was equally silly. What else can you expect from the incredibly prolific psychedelic music era? In the case of the Bubble Puppy, however, do not write them off as silly in any way, despite the band name. Perhaps you never heard of them, or perhaps you remember the hard driving psychedelic anthem ...

Best Collection of Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland is for me one of three of America's greatest composers of the 20th Century. Bernard Herrmann and Jerome Moross are the other two. Aaron Copland would have been 100 years old on November 14, 2000. In reflection I turn back to my first Copland album, "Copland's Greatest Hits." I was familiar as most people are with "Hoe Down" and that was the springboard for me. What attracted me was ...
