Deliciously fun for kids and grownups
This is a great collection of original, contemporary songs in French from many parts of the world. I think it's the best Putumayo CD ever. People seem to enjoy it no matter their level of French! The music & lyrics are alive, relevant, full of interesting images, textures, voices. The songs have a way of introducing people, points of view, places, sort of like you're going around the world ...

Sweet set of new Brazilian music
The level of quality in Putumayo's world music samplers has been steadily rising over the last few years. The label scores another hit with this excellent collection of sleek modern balladeers and Brazilian pop innovators... Included are Da Lata, Rossa Passos, Jussara Silveira, Rita Ribero, and my personal hero, Moreno Veloso (the son of the great Caetano Veloso). There are also several less well ...

Music with mojo
Latin jazz has a long&storied presence in American music. From Carlos Santana dabbling in jazz fusion despite Clive Davis' discouragement to the current popularity of Bebel Gilberto and the J.Lo/Marc Anthony biopic about salsa singer Hector Lavoe, Latin flavors have spiced up American jazz. Putumayo's "Latin Jazz" is an excellent sampler of the genre, beginning with a 1957 song from Machito and ...

This will definitely hook you!
Bought this CD for a party, and I really enjoyed it. I listen to it in my car a lot, great dance music, much of it is really lovely and catchy, and the arab singing style on most of these tracks is pretty low-key --- not too intense for western ears. Nice too, for checking out different artists, to see which ones you would like to hear more of. Definitely recommend it!

An excellent compilation
I picked this up on a whim at my local CD shop. Not all Putumayo compilations are as good - this one has a consistent feel and excellent tracks. What made it really worth it for me was the discovery of artists I didn't know. Alongside big names like Angelique Kidjo and Faya Tess, there was the beautiful voice of Dobet Gnahore from the Cote d'Ivoire, Gabriela Mendes from Cabo Verde and two artists ...

A Musical Mojito
Putumayo's "Cafe Cubano" is the latest in the world music's cafe series, and so far,the best. While Italian&French Cafe are bland collections, the Cuban one is a savory blend of old and new music. The compilation is like a mojito-a cold limeade with the extra kick of rum. There's even a recipe--a mojito dipping sauce made with lime, lemon&orange juices. "Cafe Cubano" opens with Jose Conde y Ola ...

Brazilian Brilliance
Putumayo has never gone wrong with its Brazilian compilations.Like "Brasileiro",its first Brazilian compilation, this album is focused on the country's acoustic music. This album is reflective, relaxing, and at times bittersweet, like dark chocolate. Highlights- 1)Aquele Frevo Axe-On this song,Gal Costa sounds like the more famous Bebel Gilberto. It's a delightful song, despite its theme of lost ...

A great introduction to the Putumayo series
PARIS is the first compilation in the Putumayo series that I really took a shine to. The first cd in the series I heard was ARABIC GROOVE earlier this year but I was bored with it. It wasn't until the PARIS compilation did I realize how great Putumayo series is. PARIS is a delightful compilation of Parisian music from the Nouvelle Scene (new scene). When I listen to the cd, I feel like I am ...

The most incredible lullaby CD EVER!
This is a compilation of the most stunning lullabies I've ever heard. My daughter is 10 months old, and I can't believe that we just discovered this album now! The other lullaby CDs we own pale in comparison to this CD. I can't imagine anyone not loving the songs on this album as much as we do. But it... you won't regret it.

TRULY A SENSATIONAL PIECE!
This music makes you want to get up and dance! The first few tracks are the best, but the whole CD is very good. I could not stop listening to son fro by africando and many more. Hide this CD because once you pop it in, your friends will never want to give it back to you. After owning gypsy caravan, afro-latino, afro latin party, salsa around the world, cuba and many more i have come to say that ...

Est-ce que vous fumez ce soir?
Listen, I know it's universally fashionable to bash the French these days. And I won't pretend I'm above it. Sometimes it seems the French go to great lengths to be unlikable. But, after listening to this collection, I just can't bring myself to be another jackal heaping on the abuse. Sure, the French can be relentless with their humorless, self-righteous, hypocritical pretensions. But they ...

a must have for children of all ages!
I received this CD as a gift at my baby shower and I must say it is by far my favorite. My daughter is not yet 2 months old but we listen to World Playground in the car and dance to it at home. It's upbeat and fun and she really responds to the diverse rhythms and beats. I love how the CD insert lists lyrics in English and the original languages and also includes a background of the type of ...

You Don't Have To Have Kids To Love This!
After seeing "The Last King of Scotland" (decidedly NOT for the kiddies!!!), I desperately wanted some African music, so I went online and found "African Playground". I listened to the samples, ordered the CD, and upon receiving it, was surprised (and somewhat embarassed) to see that its intended audience was children. "Oh well," I said to my dog, "what the heck. I'm pretty immature ...

Our Favorite So Far
This album is like any other: A mix of songs. But it is the only one that our son demands over and over (he's 2). Specifically he likes the Monkey Song. My husband likes the Three Little Bears song a lot too. Not easy to find anything that will please both generations! Thanks Putamayo!
