The Shape of Jazz to Come36 reviews
Ornette Coleman

Atlantic / Wea, 1990

10 Most Dangerous Albums of All Time (Entry Four)
1959 is to jazz what 1977 is to punk rock: glorious. John Coltrane's Giant Steps. Miles Davis recording Kind of Blue. Charles Mingus and his eponymous Mingus Ah Um. And my personal favorite, Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. 1959 also introduced one man whose debut album shook the foundations of jazz and introduced a shift in jazz music that is still felt today. The young man with the ...

Baby Einstein - Baby Newton - World Of Shapes167 reviews

Walt Disney Video, 2002

My baby loves it!
I'm shocked that this only has an average of 3 stars as it's rating. My daughter loves the music & shapes in this video. She's glued to the TV almost the whole time. Same with Baby's first sounds & Meet the Orchestra. (She was 9 mo old when she started liking them & she's 11 mo old now).

Baby Einstein - Discovering Shapes13 reviews
Baby Einstein

WALT DISNEY VIDEO, 2007

Great video
My older child grew up with Baby Newton and enjoyed it, but my younger child loves Discovering Shapes. At 20 months, he loved and started recognizing the shapes as they came on the screen. At 22 months, he now likes to point out circles and ovals to me wherever we go. This is by far one of our family favorites.

Brainy Baby - Shapes & Colors25 reviews
Moira Stott

BRAINY BABY, 2002

Excellent and Entertaining
My daughter's have both loved this video. It helped my older one learn her shapes quickly. The songs are catchy and I find myself singing along from the front seat. I prefer these over Baby Einstein any day!

William Wegman's Fay's Twelve Days of Christmas5 reviews
William Wegman

Microcinema DVD, 2006

Cute for Kids!
Caught this on HBO recently, and I am going to purchase it for my neighbor's little boy. Very cute, has elements of "educational" content in it (while making Christmas cookies, the different shapes are highlighted). Adults will appreciate the hilarity of the dogs dressed as people and their obliviousness to what they are supposed to be doing (according to the script). About 25 minutes long.

Bear in the Big Blue House: Shapes, Sounds & Colors With Bear!7 reviews
Lynne Thigpen, Noel MacNeal

Walt Disney Video, 2004

Best Bear There Is!
We have a few of the "Bear" DVD's and I think this one is the best. I really like the songs and the subjects. My son also likes this one the best as well. If you want to try out this series or add one to you collection this is the excellent choice.

Bear McCreary, Richard Gibbs, ...

La-La Land Records, 2005

Passacaglia
The Name Bear MacCreary is since the 1. Season of Battlesat Galactica associated with the terrific jet starving melody of the passacaglia - a real klassical hit, a music to die for!

Micachu & The Shapes

Rough Trade Us, 2009

What a strange and unique CD
Part electro-pop, part indie rock, part hip-hop and part Tom Waits is the best description I can think of. What a unique sound from the UK, and the woman is a classical composition student! "Golden Phone" is my new favorite song, but there are plenty of great tracks here to go around. Most are on the short side, my only complaint. This is 3-person group, but you wouldn't know that listening ...

Bent Out of Shape23 reviews
Rainbow

Umvd Special Markets, 1999

Instantly became my favorite CD with either Blackmore or Turner
It stays intense, song after song, but not by relying on sheer guitar power so much like you find with, say, Rainbow's previous Straight Between the Eyes album. Turner can't really scream it out as much as other vocalists Blackmore has recorded with, so Turner's screaming it out on some places in SBTE was pushing it a bit. The vocals and adjusted heavier sound there may have come as ...

Dive Olly Dive: Ship Shape Sub1 review
Dive Olly Dive

NCircle Entertainment, 2009

A Lovable Child Like Character
This is my favorite Dive Olly Dive video so far. I just love this little guy. He is inquisitive, caring and insightful. With his best friends, Beth and Skid, Olly explores, learns and grows as he teaches our children valuable lessons on friendship, listening and caring for others. Up until recently I had not known of Olly but after reviewing a few videos have quickly rated him as one of my ...

The Colour and the Shape296 reviews
Foo Fighters

Capitol, 1997

Foo Fighters' Best Album
I had the pleasure of getting to shake Dave Grohl's hand behind the stage at Summerfest (Milwaukee, WI) on the Colour and the Shape tour on July 5, 1997. I was keenly aware that TCATS was an amazing album at the time, but the perspective of another 10 years passed has revealed just how incredible the record is from start to finish. Never again have the Foos really recaptured the feeling, the ...

I love this DVD and my kids love it too
Thank you for this DVD, it put a smile in my kids face and mine too. My Toddler loves the video.Introduces babies and toddlers to numbers and shapes. The Shape of Jazz to Come2 reviews
Ornette Coleman

Rhino/Wea UK, 2005

Remastered Shape
I highly recommend shelling out a few more bucks for this remastered version--the sound is greatly improved (higher resolution, more "information") compared to the original CD version. Sounds more like you're listening to four great musicians instead of a recording of 'em. This is a classic and beautiful album that was revolutionary at its time, and is still very appealing today. Incidentally, ...

The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombation In 12 Bursts116 reviews
Refused

Burning Heart, 1998

Remains one of my favorite albums.
I've owned three copies of this album, two on CD (the second coming after the first simply got handled too much) and the third on DVD Audio. Having bought the first copy back when it came out (late 98, early 99 or so) I can honestly say that even after listening to it for 10 years and having memorized every single nuance and fill, it still holds up. There's simply not another band that has come ...
