Von Stade has a voice made of emotion. Her Cherubino (you can hear it on Solti's recording of Le Nozze) is simply THE BEST that there is, so it's vital that they included her "Non So Piu" on this CD - a very interesting arrangement, too, with violin. Not so good as with orchestral accompaniment ...

When I bought this CD years ago it didn't get an especially favourable review in 'Gramophone'- apparently Von Stade didn't have the strength of voice for the Monteverdi. Hmm...well I would urge anyone at all interested in either Cavalli or Monteverdi to get this disc, which is a real favourite ...
