Skills for Midwifery Practice 1 review Ruth Bowen, Wendy Taylor
Churchill Livingstone, 2005
Nice lay-out but basic
This is a good book for a beginner student. It is a little more basic than I expected but is thorough and well divided into skill topics. It provides good practical information that "spells it out" for beginners but also could be a useful resource for those with a little more experience.

The true essence of midwifery
The definition of midwifery is "with woman". It is not "managing women" or "directing birth". It is about being a woman's equal, being up to date on the most evidence-based research, and providing women full informed choice and support for her decisions. This is the essence of midwifery.
