+ Classic review on a classic sport + Incredible
I bought this for my husband this year for Christmas. He's really enjoying it.
It's well done and includes a wide spectrum of the sport of soccer. Informative, entertaining and just really well done. Of course one could always find something to complain about, but over all I say a fantastic way to ...

how soccer explains the world
+ A different way of looking at thing
This was a well written book regarding soccer in the global community. I would encourage anyone who enjoys the game to read this interesting perspective on how soccer is influenced by religion and race and vice versa.

Ajax, the Dutch, the War 3 reviews Simon Kuper
Orion (an Imprint of The Orion Publishing Group Ltd ), 2003
Great book. Engrossing and a quick read
+ A really great book + A myth-buster!
I bought this book while I was in Amsterdam and began and finished the book on the flight home. The book was enlightening, dispelling many myths and opening my eyes to cultural issues in Holland that are hidden to non Dutch speakers.

Soccer in Sun and Shadow, New Edition 33 reviews Eduardo Galeano
Verso, 2003
Fine writing with or without a game
+ One of my all-time favorite books + My favorite book about soccer
There are few books of non-fiction whose writing transcends the subject matter, but this is such a book. I am not a soccer player but this book made me a fan of the game and a fan of Galeano. He puts us on a field, in the stands, at the goal, in the sun, and under the shadows. He transports us ...
