Heart pounding suspense
+ A tale of mystery & madness + Historical novel
I LOVED this book. My heart was pounding during several narrative moments in the novel. There are lots of plot twists and turns, and the reader will never see them coming. I lost many hours of sleep reading this book because I just couldn't put it down.

Unique historical fiction
+ a good, though depressing, historical novel + Fascinating bit of fiction
Do yourself a favor and read this book. As an academic specializing in Regency period literature, I find Donoghue's descriptions of 19th century London flawless and her storytelling ability top notch. This is a unique story of a poor, young woman navigating through London and its environs, ...

Memorable and lush...
+ For the Love of Miss Sugar + At over 800 pages, this book still was not long enough
It has been many years since I read this, and I still occasionally think on the characters as if they were people I once knew and wonder what's become of them. Often graphic, often disturbing, always consuming. Highly recommended.
If you find endings which are even remotely ambiguous to be ...
