This is the best space trader game ever. Not because of the original game but because of all the mods available. Blaster universe mod, Discovery mod and crossfire mod. Using freelancer mod manager. There are many more mods too, even starwars mods. No game is beter. And some mod continue the story. I bought this years ago but lost it. I need to buy a new copy. I lost or traded probably. If I had ...

Good potential but....
Started off great, fantastic graphics and the ships were good fun to fly. The problem is that you never know where to go or what to do. You're supposed to go out in to the universe and find "jobs" to do but with no direction or idea as to how to go about doing it. I went from one planet to another, nothing happened but I enjoyed the view. Too bad the game cheat manual is out of print.

gorgeous sequel
The music is inferior to the first... the graphics and explosions are still amazing years later... the bone chilling groan of a ruptured capital ship brings these metallic ships to life. certainly a must play, just like the original.

Great War...GREAT GAME
I have had this game since the 90's and had to replace the discs. This is one of the best space war sims ever made.

First of its kind and well worth the praise
This is a 3D RTS game and as such will require a lot of getting used to. I am a very spatial person so the interface was very intuitive, but for others, it might take a long time to understand and master or never at all. The story is original and gripping. The music is enchanting and after 8 years I still go back and listen to it. The races that you'll encounter are just incredible. It is like ...

Great mutiplayer game! You also don't have to worry about DRM!
I am a TBS fan. I seen this was a 4X RTS game and heard from a friend it was cool so I bought it. This is a RTS game that's more like TBS game! It's a fun game but IMO mutiplayer is where this game is best at. Mutiplayer is a lot of fun!!! Stardock did not put a DRM on it, so when you buy it, it is YOUR game! After seeing what happened with spore I am very happy that this does not limit your ...

This series is getting better...
I started playing this kind of game with Elite on the C64. That game was always the one to measure the others by. Unfortunately I've never had as much fun as I once did with that old game. Sure, everything aspect of gameplay has moved on but it never quite worked well enough for me to get into the game like I once did. The X series has certainly been the leader and this latest version, the ...

even better than the first.
home world cataclysm takes place some years after the completion of the first home world which means you now have your home planet back and your people are no longer on the run and everything about it is even better than the first truly awsome.

Great Space Game!!!!
I read through alot of reviews. Alot of them bad with comments on software issues. They ranged from wont run on Vista to widescreen monitors cause the game to constantly crash. I almost didn't buy it but I did. Figured I waste money on worse things and all I have to say is I am glad I did give it a try. The version I recieved was already the newer patched 1.3 version. I run it on Vista ...

Awesome game. Plenty of play time after the main plot is completed. Visit a ton of planets in many systems. Try trading with a freighter if you get bored with just shooting everyone in a starfighter. The cut scenes in the bars & other interactive places get boring, but just hit 'escape' to run through them. Again,.... great game & loads of fun for the money

Good space sim but...
This is my first review for anything, so here we go. Overall I am enjoying this game. The graphics are excellent but not ground breaking by any means. Rarely does Tarr crash but not enough for me to want to throw the game out the window. I like being able to customize my ship and having different ships to choose from, such as a whole array of weapons, shields, engines, armor types and even ...

Macro Management fun!
After playing for quite a while I have found that this game is very entertaining and is hugely replayable. While the 3D star map does take some getting used to, the simple tech tree and simplified system development controls free the player to think about strategy, instead of micromanaging every single colony. It reminds of Master of Orion, rather than Master of Orion II or III. Real time ...

This is the game I've always wanted
If you enjoy science fiction, space operas, huge battles in space with massive ships tricked out with outrageous weapons, buy this game. But don't stop there, if you want a game with a great story, wide open options to customize and manage your fleet, and top-notch voice acting, again, buy this piece of software magic. It is a steal. Why this game has not won tons of awards is a mystery. If you ...

The Ultimate Space Fighter Game
I bought this game at Wal-Mart and I took it home and I was blown away by the details and realisim. I was happy that the game was based off of the Pentium 133 megahertz chip since that is what is in my system. Back to the game, The Great War DISKS! were the best games I ever played for PC. You start out as a fresh piliot and your first missions are traineing, so you get used to the controls. ...

Awesome Space Game Ever Made
X3 Combo package Review: "I ordered the COMBO package which is suppose to be X3 v1.0 and X3 v2.0 - because as this was going to be a collectors item for me. I received 2 of the very same package and game. Instead of what the purchase was intended to be like the description it said. So basically I bought the same game twice. Maybe someone in the ordering and packaging was not paying ...

Great Game!
This game is quite enjoyable if you like the idea of being dropped into a universe with 40+ huge sectors that you can explore. I've played so far for 20+ hours as a trader. The RPG aspects are great as you pick and choose the areas of your ship you wish to level up, such as shield, speed, jammer, cargo space, etc. Also depending upon your occupation you can have up to 3 wingmen which allows you ...

Loved it, still love it, still playing it!
I fell in love with this game when it first came out years ago. And there aren't, or weren't, many Microsoft games I could easily say that about. Yeah... it's not the greatest space combat sim ever, but it's well worth the play and I have enjoyed it over and over again. If you don't know much about the game, think Space: Above and Beyond. If you didn't watch that TV show from the mid-90's it's ...

Holy Spacemonkeys!
Space Rangers 2 is pure fun. It reminds me of an old game named Privateer that ran on DOS. You run around the galaxy in your spaceship fighting, trading, doing small missions and buying upgrades for your ship. You can play the game as a fighter, merchant or pirate. Part of the game includes a StarCraft like element where you fight in a real-time strategy mode, but for those who don't like ...

Year round gaming
This is a very very good looking space simulation. O man, my mouth dropped. The last good simulation I played was Wing Commander 3. Flying through Nebulas with the cockpit view made me feel like I was there. The cutscenes however could use some work (needs a good artistic touch with textures - they were off color). This is a long long game period. The parts I played were fun. However, I didn't ...
