After I bought the first one for the living room, I bought more, for the bedroom. You don't have to get up or stretch to change the brightness. They are perfect for lamps that are not close to you. Also dimming lamps saves electricity. I wouldn't call the red light a night "light" as such, but having the little red light makes the control easy to find in the dark.

Nice looking dimmer
It kind of shows my age; but the last time I bought a timer for a 3-way switch, I had to get one of those with a rotary knob which don't look very attractive. That was the only way to have the dimming level stay set when turn the light on and off from different locations. Now I am remodeling and using decorative switches and this matches all the other switches and dims the lights the way I want.

cheap looking
I was disappointed with the cheap plastic look of these wall plates, even though the method for fixing them to the wall is cool ( no screws showing). They are also pretty bright and not very subdued in color.

Excellent dimmer - totally noiseless!
I agree with everything in the other review as far as this being an indispensible item for new parents. I also used it to turn on the light for midnight feedings so I could keep it low and the baby would go back to sleep. The absolutely noiseless turn off on the dimmer made sure my daughter didn't wake up again at the end of the feeding.

overpriced and unreliable
First, don't trust the Amazon "list price" which as of my typing this reads "$39.79." This item sells at Home Depot for $29.99 with no discount. I am 0 for 2 with Lutron dimmers. They cost a ton, and both that I have owned, including this one, have lasted less than five years. Dimmers DO go bad frequently. But when you are $30 into it for a light switch, it gets irritating.
