Excellent series of books
We live abroad and so our kids' English isn't up to the level of their peers in the States. We'll be moving back to the States this coming year though and I wanted to be able to see where exactly my kids stood vis-a-vis their English skills, so I could then work on the areas they needed help in. I bought the reading and writing books in this series from grades 1-4. The books are not only an ...

Great resource!
I am a [...]teacher in a school where many of the students are ESL learners. I came across this book when I was looking for a way to help my students develop their reading fluency. Let me just say, my class has LOVED acting out these plays! I only wish I had discovered it earlier in the year so that I could have more time to work with this book. I would highly recommend it.

An excellent resource for new teachers and tutors
I tutor kindergarten students in phonemic awareness and found this book to be an invaluable resource in preparing lessons for the children. While many books tend to emphasize phonics, the children that I tutor cannot yet recognize sounds within words, a necessary pre-requisite to phonics instruction. This book is one of a few that gives specific sound - related activities. One tool that I ...

Fun addition to they Smart Cycle
I go this game for my 4 yr old son. He had the Smart Cycle with the game that came with it for a year now and didnt' play with it hardly every. But now that we have the Thomas game, he plays it everyday. It helps that he's a huge Thomas fan. It has taught him physical abilities. The game has helped teach him how to pedal a bike. It has also taught him how to use a joystick. This is ...

I love this book!
I am a homeschooling mom, sadly lacking in the creativity department. I love this book and have found it to be a wonderful resource for art class. It's easy to use and dd loves the activities. This is the one subject I was really concerned about being able to adequately teach, but this book has made it so simple. In addition to just offering a creative outlet, it gives instruction in actual ...

Great for Special Ed.
This is easy for special education students to use. They don't feel overwhelmed by the page. They are required to write but will not feel frustrated by the tasks. It has organizers for each part of the writing process, which will also help students retain information. Great for students with memory problems!

Fun Activities
This is a great little book with lots of fun and simple activities to do with really little ones. A lot of these activities are so simple that you will think "I could have come up with that" but now that I'm a new mom and back to work I'm happy I don't have to. I can just choose one or two of these to add to help make my lesson more fun.

Quick, user-friendly, and thorough
One of THE most helpful books I've ever read regarding reader's workshop. I have used (and shared) this techniques over and over with my students & colleagues. I can't imagine my reader's workshop without this resource! You shouldn't either. It's worth the $15 and then some!! (Also just saw these same ladies came out with one on writer's workshop, can't wait to read that!)

Robot from Santa
My 6 year old was delighted that Santa got him a robot like he asked. My son is a bit impatient with it however, because it doesn't behave exactly like he thinks it should (it turns when it "should" go straight). I think with more focused play he'll get more out of it. We didn't realize that it could interact with the smaller robot, which is a cool, unexpected feature.

duh, now I get it
I read this book as a parent trying to figure out where to start because I wanted to teach my child how to read. Blevins did a great job introducing ME to teaching phonics. As a homeschooling parent, I feel like I am bombarded with kits and programs that guarantee to teach reading through phonics, but it seems like a lot of these are not very useful stuff marketed by people who seem a lot ...

So Many Great Ideas
This book is full of great craft ideas. My favorite is the materials and activity indexes at the end. Say you have some extra paper towel rolls you want to make a craft with, just look it up, turn to the pages listed and there are several ideas of how to use them in a fun and creative way with your child. This book has inspired me to try some new things - it's bringing out the artist in my ...
