The Foot Book: Dr. Seuss's Wacky Book of Opposites (Bright & Early Board Books(TM))60 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1996

My daughter's favourite book
We didn't have Dr. Seuss where I grew up so I don't have any misplaced emotional attachment to the "original"; for my daughter this will be the original. I love this little book and so does my daughter. When we start reading it she jumps up and down and laughs and claps her hands, we make it interactive with toys like a stuffed pig and a clown doll, yawning for night time, juggling on the "well ...

My Book of Writing Words: Learning about Consonants and Vowels (Kumon Workbooks)1 review

Kumon Publishing North America, 2005

Great for my 5 year old.
Writing Words was so inviting to my 5 year old daughter. She opened it up and knew right away what she was to do, despite the fact that she cannot read and is not that sure of the orientation of her letters. The pages make her curious and she loves to trace and to write the letters in the blocks. These Kumon books are very subtle that way - they are easy and natural without being tricky or ...

The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread (Tale of ...375 reviews
Kate Dicamillo

Candlewick, 2006

Pure Magic
A few weeks ago I saw a preview for the movie version of DiCamillo's The Tale of Despereaux, and not knowing a bit about the storyline, thought the movie looked kinda cute. Beautiful colors and wonderful lines in the animation, a cute little mouse of a hero, and I do love Matthew Broderick (the voice of Despereaux). Even if it did look faintly like "Ratatouille," I felt excited about the movie ...

Hop on Pop (Beginner Books(R))98 reviews

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1963

a family favorite
Hop On Pop was always a favorite of my three children for the rhymes , theme and pictures. Now that my children are grown, I continue to delight other children with the purchase of this book. There is something about it that makes them clamor to hear it over and over and over again.

ThinkFun What¿s Gnu9 reviews

ThinkFun

ThinkFun, 2006

great educational game
great educational toy, although really need an adult to play with the child if he/she is just learning to read. Using the letter dispenser is alot of fun for the child (just like the tile dispenser in Zingo). It's a fun way for kids to learn - and they don't even realize you're teaching them!

Bob Books Set 4- Compound Words9 reviews
Bobby Lynn Maslen

Scholastic Paperbacks, 2006

Great Head Start!
I love these Bob books. I bought sets 1-5. My boys are still on the first box and they are cruising right through. Kindergarten and first grade. It is GREAT to find a set that introduces new word families and then reinforces them. You won't be disappointed. The drawings are so simple but my kids really do relate.

The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth (Magic School Bus)8 reviews
Joanna Cole

Scholastic Press, 1989

Rocks, Rocks, Everywhere!
"The Magic School Bus: Inside the Earth" immediately picks up where its predecessor, "At the Waterworks", left off. At the end of each book, Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen provide a subtle clue as to the nature and content of their next collaboration - a sly wink to those of us who catch such details. "At the Waterworks" concludes with Ms. Frizzle looking at a map of a volcano, which tells us the ...

Cloth Fancy Nancy, 18", Storybook Collection8 reviews

Madame Alexander

Madame Alexander, 2008

Cloth Fancy Nancy Doll
She is perfect-a great size 18" and she's all cloth so can be played with and carried everywhere. My 2 yr.old grandbaby will love her. Now she will have a connection between the Fancy Nancy books and the doll. All Fancy Nancy's little dress and dress-up bling is sewed in place, so they won't fall off and be lost forever. What a great doll to give that special little one who loves all the Fancy ...

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?128 reviews
Jane Yolen

Blue Sky Press, 2000

Buy this book in hardcover, not as a board book!
We got a couple of books in the Dinosaurs series as board books from my coworker, and overall my daughter (22 months at the time of this review) liked them, but the hardcovers are simply gorgeous with large, detailed and brilliant pictures. I got this book in the library, and Anna wanted to read it several times in a row (not to mention every night since then). I plan to assemble the whole series ...

Now I'm Reading!: Amazing Animals - Level 2 (Now I'm Reading)32 reviews
Nora Gaydos

Innovative Kids, 2001

Perfect for young readers!
I bought this for my 4 yr old after having used the first two sets of Bob Books (scholastic). Now I'm Reading!: Amazing Animals is an excellent next step! Amazing Animals introduces long vowel sounds and vowel pairs (digraphs) in managable chunks. This set is great for kids who are intimidated by the usual graded learning-to-read books (like Danny and the Dinosaur) or books which rely on ...

Dr. Seuss's ABC (I Can Read It All By Myself Beginner Books)38 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

X is very useful if your name is Nixie Knox...
Dr. Seuss's ABC Beginner Book is perhaps the best way I know to introduce your child to the alphabet. There's a lot of fun for young children in this book; the illustrations are wonderful and the use of the letters in making new words for children is excellent. It truly reflects well on Dr. Seuss that he wrote such a fine book for young child just beginning to learn how to read. This book ...

There's a Wocket in My Pocket!17 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1974

Delightful
This is a delight for kids and adults. It's fun to read out loud, with goofy creature names like yottle, nooth grush and quimney. I've read it many times to my two kids without getting tired of it. The artwork is fun and playful. What else would you expect from Dr. Seuss?

The Cat in the Hat Comes Back (Beginner Books(R))41 reviews
Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1958

Dr. Suess at his best !
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby As a child, I liked The Cat in the Hat Comes Back better than the original. Now my 4-year-old son agrees. He can't get enough of this absurd tale of a bathtub ring that ends up all over the house and yard. The story's imagination is breathtaking, as the cat in the hat reveals 26 more cats in hats atop his head. There's educational value, ...

Playful Pals: Level 117 reviews
Nora Gaydos

Innovative Kids, 2003

Very motivating for the child who just wont!!!!!
my son now six has known his letter sounds since he was four and just would not be willing to sit down and read even the simpliest of books to me, and I have a lot of emergent readers and leveled readers. This was the set That did it for us. He begs to read these books, he thinks they are so funny and they are wrote in a way that works for him. These books really concentrate on phonics and not ...
