The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything22 reviews
Linda Williams

HarperTrophy, 1988

Our Favorite Halloween Book
I found this book last year at the library and read it to my daughter when she was three- Within a few pages, she was saying most of the entertainingly repetitive dialogue on her own. It's the best Halloween book for preschoolers out there, in my opinion. This year, we bought a copy of our own and she loved it just as much as the first time around.

LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe130 reviews

LeapFrog

LeapFrog, 2006

Great Educational Value
I love this Leapfrog explorer Globe. The price has really come down over the years, so I finally caved in and bought one. My friends and I (all around 25 years old) have actually had competitions that really help us to learn a great deal about the earths geography. It's a little embarrassing how little we know about the locations of countries, but this globe makes the learning fun and VERY ...

Esperanza Rising313 reviews
Pam Munoz Ryan

Blue Sky Press, 2002

Reads almost like a song
I did not expect this book to amaze me as much as it did. Maybe it's the fact that this is based on the true story of the author's grandmother, but this book is written with such heart and love it will set you weeping. At the same time, it's beautiful, touching, and rich in inspiration and the human spirit. Esperanza is a girl who lives the life of a princess in Mexico. However, the fairy tale ...

Hours of shear laughter.
Hours of shear laughter. Everyone in our family loves this game. I brought it to a family reunion at Tahoe a few years back and now we all own our own set. I added the the Kids addition so the little ones could join in the fun. We are a big game playing family but even my husband who avoids board games enjoys this game.

The Little Engine That Could: The Complete, Original Edition (A Platt & Munk Classic)65 reviews
Watty Piper, Doris Hauman

Grosset & Dunlap, 1978

a classic for me and for my kids
This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed as a child. I began to borrow it from the library for my own two boys and decided, finally, to order one from Amazon for my son's birthday. We returned the borrowed book to the library the day before his birthday and there were many tears. So, you can imagine my son's elation to open up his very own "Little Engine That Could" on his birthday. A fantastic ...

Portable and fun
We found this game a couple of years ago and it is one of the frequently "returned to" games in our collection. The kids like it because they can get adults to play - the rules are not so intricate that we refuse to play. Setup is quick; games are long enough to be interesting, but not too long to put off until "later".

The Egypt Game204 reviews

A young "Hollywood star" named April is dumped by her single mother at Grandma's house, since she isn't doing a good job looking after her. April is used to moving around a lot, and instead of making new friends she usually just play pretends alone, acting as a movie star or whatever else she can dream up. Pacifiers Are Not Forever (Board Book) (Best Behavior Series)2 reviews
Elizabeth Verdick

Free Spirit Publishing, 2007

Great Book - Great Story for Toddlers' To Relate To!
I think this was a wonderful book. It's simple to understand that pacifiers are not forever, and there comes a time when one grows bigger and it's time to stop using them. I think this books gets the message across really well, giving a lot of positive compliments to a child when they are ready to try and reach that point that they are now "bigger" and "it's time". I would recommend this book to ...

Crispin: Cross of Lead, The (Crispin)226 reviews
Avi

Hyperion Book CH, 2004

A Great Read-Aloud Book
Let's see, what else can be said here that isn't already said? Crispin is easily (and consistently) summarized as it is a simple story, clearly told, that hangs an intriguing and imaginative tale on a skeleton of a few basic facts. The scene and scenary are actually quite foreign to the modern child, but Avi's delivery renders 14th century England in the times of Edward (sounds knowledgeable, ...

Critical Thinking7 reviews
Brooke Noel Moore, Richard Parker

Very well written and easy to understand. The author doesn't go over your head with abstract concepts for his peers. It is very broken down and helpful.

Don Freeman

Puffin, 1976

Wonderful book
We really enjoyed this book and reading it to our daughter - who is nearly three. It not only captivates her imagination but is full of wonderful old fashioned values - particularly of being "liked for the person who you are". I would highly recommend it.

Enemy Pie (Reading Rainbow book)30 reviews
Derek Munson

Chronicle Books, 2000

ENEMY PIE
What an outstanding piece of children's literature! This book reminds me of the old fashioned picture books of my youth with a modern feel. It teaches a valuable lesson without being preachy or didactic. Throughout the story a young boy struggles with a new neighbor who is not very nice. The two become sworn enemies, until, our main character, with the help of his Dad, decides to get even by ...
