Toy Story 2 [VHS]551 reviews
Tim Allen, Jodi Benson

Disney/Pixar, 2000

Don't Toy With Us, Partner
"Toy Story 2," the Pixar computer-animated flick entertains us wildly, but also teaches a lesson: it's better to be a toy loved and played with by a child than be a toy admired in a collectibles museum. Woody the Cowboy (voice of Tom Hanks) is owned by Andy who accidentally almost rips his arm off. Andy's mother puts broken toys out in her yard sale, and Woody, trying to save a fellow toy from ...

Darby's Rangers [VHS]7 reviews
James Garner, Etchika Choureau

Warner Home Video, 1995

Wild Bill Defies Formula
Near the end of his eccentric and notorious career William "Wild Bill" Wellman directed "Darby's Rangers" for Warner Brothers. Despite the studio's budget, which limited the production to formula action-war-adventure status, Wellman used the dialogue to create interesting characterizations from his young contract players. Focusing on James Garner as Darby and the personal lives of his men, on and ...

Compromising Positions [VHS]9 reviews
Susan Sarandon, Raul Julia

Paramount, 1995

Another underrated 80's movie
Raoul Julia was sooo handsome! This movie is pre-political Susan, you can tell by her light handed acting. I really enjoyed this film, a suburban murder mystery. Judith Ivy is terrific as the slutty neighbor who sleeps around on her husband. The story rises above the upper class gossip filled neighborhood. Very well done, and very overlooked! Enjoy!

White Christmas [VHS]245 reviews
Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye

White Christmas
Christmas wouldn't be the same without Bing and the gang. I bought this to round out a gift basket for my hubby. We had a great time in our Christmas movie marathon on Christmas day. Thanks for providing great memories.

A Damsel in Distress [VHS]17 reviews
Fred Astaire, George Burns

Turner Home Ent, 1996

A comic gem overlooked!
There are several things of importance about this film. Most importantly.......it's George Gershwin's LAST COMPLETE score. He did write 1 more song for 38's GOLDWYN FOLLIES but never completed it (Ira Gershwin and Vernon Duke did.....OUR LOVE IS HERE TO STAY) but A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS is choc a bloc with gags and songs and great comic performances. Fred Astaire really seems so much more at ease ...

Fat Guy Goes Nutzoid (Sp) [VHS]5 reviews
Anthony Ettari, Jack De-Vall

TROMA ENTERTAINMENT INC., 1997

How can this not be on dvd?
Fat guy. Going....nutzoid. Can it get better? It could, only if it were about 30 minutes longer, or if they made a sequel. Cinema doesn't get any finer than this folks. Something that even John Waters would be proud to watch. Get it, cherish it, and sign any petition (or start your own) to get this released on dvd, with tons (no pun intended) of extras and commentary. Get it now though to ...

Welcome Stranger [VHS]4 reviews
Ariane Allen, Don Beddoe

Universal Studios, 1995

A warm-hearted classic
anyone who gives this movie less than 5 stars has to be checked for a pulse! This is a well made, warm hearted classic. A "feel good" movie of triumph...once upon a time, when movies made you feel good about life... WHEN is this going to be put on DVD?!? When you see the VHS price so high, you realize how rare and great this film is!

The Crucible [VHS]168 reviews
Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder

20th Century Fox, 1998

The Crucible still relevant in the new millenium
I teach high school American Literature, and The Crucible is a regular part of our curriculum. We traditionally read it in the fall, accompanied by the Puritan literature of the period in which it is set. Students find it interesting and engaging, for the most part, but often have a tough time picturing the action. This film--which I was astonished to learn is the only English-language ...

Berkeley in the Sixties [VHS]27 reviews
Jentri Anders, Joan Baez

First Run Features, 1999

"do not go gentle..."
Your review ("The Revolution Will be Dramatized") is replete with glaring errors and untruths. Where to begin. Yes--paragraph by paragraph quotes: 1. "after their periods of action subsided." In fact, not only did the action not subside, but in many ways it has abided or even increased. For example, the legacy of their courageous dissent and activism informs the Iraq war protest ethic today ...

Three on a Match (1932) [VHS]16 reviews
Virginia Davis, Joan Blondell

MGM (Warner), 1998

Highly Entertaining, Twice as Shocking
Three on a Match is a superstition begun by a matchmaker who wanted to sell more matches. Supposedly, if three people light the same cigarette on one match, the third to do so will die. The story begins in a schoolyard where three girls are at recess. There is a mischievious girl who smokes and shows her bloomers to everyone named Mary (Joan Blondell), a prissy popular one named Vivien (Ann ...

Bob Dylan - Don't Look Back [VHS]110 reviews
Bob Dylan, Albert Grossman

Docurama, 2000

A truer portrait of Bob
The original version of DLB was and still is a groundbreaking documentary of a pivotal moment in the career of Bob Dylan, and rock music in general, but it is less about the music than it is about the drama and pettiness that Dylan was involved in behind the scenes. The new 65 Revisited disc shows more of the softer side of Bob, particularly towards his adoring British fans, and also presents the ...
