Family Fare
This movie is an all time favorite for my children and me. Great family "values" with close family trying to stay together despite parents' jobs in show business and adolescent girls not wanting "to be seen" with parents. Much warmth with fabulous, uplifting old vaudeville tunes--great singing and dancing--kids of all ages love it. It is so obvious that there was strong, mutual admiration ...

realistic and captivating
This 1976 movie takes up well beyond most other movies about Robin Hood and his love for Maid Marian. The story here has more to do with them both in their later years, describing what it is like to be in the twilight of your life instead of the vigorous vibrant and happy times of young adulthood as portrayed typically by Errol Flynn in the 1938 version of Robin Hood. Robin and Marian has an ...

Animation, untamed emotion and untiring action everywhere!
This film counts with the extraordinary support of "Dynamation" special effects' Ray Harryhausen. A ship's figurehead comes to life, the sword-duel with the skeleton, the amazi9ng fight between the dragon and the unicorn plus the fact the genius of the lamp makes of this film a must-see for all the family. A must have familiar entertainment!

A Great Film that withstands its critics
They've forgotten how to make films like these. "A Man for All Seasons" wins through deliberation and great acting where other films fail through bombast and abstraction. Paul Scofield fits the role of Sir Thomas More ideally. The screenplay is bold to rise above its decade's cynicism and praise moral strength. Regarding criticisms that allege an unbalanced portrayal of More.. Some suggest ...

Best film of the 1970s and top 10 of all time
JAWS (1975), IMHO, is the best film in the 1970s. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! And I'm not just coming up with this. I've thought this to be the case for a very long time. Spielberg's timeless tale of a New England island terrorized by a maneating shark is the seminal Hollywood blockbuster. It's got something that EVERYONE can latch onto and enjoy...a wealth of great characters, ...

The apex of 007
Purists may have to get over how far (and how quickly) the Bond franchise moved away from the template of this foreboding, deliberate spy adventure that has always ranked as one of the very best films in the series. "From Russia With Love" was probably always going to be an anomaly: more realistic than "Dr. No", though just as creepy; as intense as "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" though not as ...

Blu-ray is here. A great revival
MGM's 1969 "Battle of Britain" is out on a remarkable transfer on Blu-ray. The visual is ninety percent plus percent of the original cinematic film in resolution and color verity. The improvement over previous DVD transfers is more noticeable than that of the DVD over the tape. I checked all three. You expect dazzling aerial sequences in the bright sun of the skies, and this is everything ...

Wonderful adaptation
I have seen both of the mainstream versions of Persuasion and while this version's male lead is less attractive than the other, the actress who plays Anne is marvelous. She perfectly exemplifies the transition that Anne undergoes through the course of the book. This movie is a very faithful adaptation of the novel, which makes it more worth purchasing than the alternative version.

Good heist film with an unexpected twist.
No, this isn't a Shaft movie. The name was changed. It is a great bit of 70's cinema shot in the middle east with low quality production. Beyond that the story is average, but it's the twist in the end that gives it two extra stars.

Extremely disturbing film adaptation--chilling and brutal
I've nothing to add regarding H. Pinter's play as I'm not familiar with it. Therefore, I may only safely comment on the film adaptation. The film is structured so that the viewer is aware that terrible things have happened, are happening, and no doubt will happen quite soon. All the action takes place at a rooming house ran by Meg and Petey Bowels (Dandy Nichols and Moultrie Kelsall). Their ...

Great actors having a lark
Something for everyone here...For starters, it has a film score by John Addison that is by turns juanty, quirky, creepy, heroic and sweepingly romantic. The cast includes the velvety voices of James Earl Jones, Robert Shaw, Genevieve Bujold, and Geoffery Holder (actor/dancer/costume designer/composer famous for his 7-up commericals and numerous voice-overs, including Burton's "Charlie and the ...

Excellent thriller.
This lesser known old dark house thriller from Lang, comes highly recommended. It's not about a haunted house actually, but I'd still call it spooky. I first saw it only a few years ago, but it's already become a fave of mine in this particular category. -Sort of, anyway; the beginning is a bit slow and too romantic, and manages to look completely un-interesting to a Horror fan, but the wait ...

Comic Satire on Murder Mysteries
Captain Flynn and another man are following Roush since he got off the train. Charlie Chan is visiting and joins the hunt. When they find Roush he will tell no tales. [The events are described so you can't miss what's happening! The comedy is really laid on thick.] Chan tracks down the owner of the car parked by the murder scene. We see a Shakespearean actor (modeled after Boris Karloff?) Then ...

Great film about a great man.
This movie belongs in every serious DVD collection, and should be enjoyed by every lover of great films, but, ironically, it is only available in Germany, not in England or America. The German DVD requires an all region DVD player, but any lover of film will have one of those -- how else to watch The African Queen, The Magnificent Ambersons, Robert Mitchum in Farewell My Lovely or Lawrence ...
