Ironic clash of cultures - a good suspense story
This is a movie about how the French saw California in the early seventies. Jean-Louis Trintignant, one of the most famous French actors then and now, is a contract killer, flown into Los Angeles from Paris for a one day job. After having dutyfully executed his victim, he finds out that his luggage and passport are gone and that an American hitman is after him (our hero is lucky that this other ...

Fasten your seatbelts
I first saw this movie when I was in my teens. I've watched it many times since, and it is still one of my all time favorite movies. People who complain about this movie are invariably the ones who saw Chicago - that watered down, vanilla imitation of Fosse and expect something similar. This is not it. This is pure unadulterated Bob Fosse. All That Jazz is electrifying, impudent, ill-mannered, ...

Best film of the 1970s and top 10 of all time
JAWS (1975), IMHO, is the best film in the 1970s. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! And I'm not just coming up with this. I've thought this to be the case for a very long time. Spielberg's timeless tale of a New England island terrorized by a maneating shark is the seminal Hollywood blockbuster. It's got something that EVERYONE can latch onto and enjoy! It has a diversity of characters with ...

PREVIEW OF GREATNESS TO COME
This was the prologue to Jonathan Demme's directorial greatness, with MELVIN AND HOWARD, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, STOP MAKING SENSE...LAST EMBRACE is a tight little thriller that sadly never found an audience. There are some great moments here: Christopher Walken as the snary head of the nameless intel-agency; Roy Scheider's wardrobe; Janet Margolin in the bathtub (and shower). Great homage to ...

DVD PLEASE!!!!!!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I've seen a lot of movies. This would be a perfect movie to view in letterbox form (would anyone watch Jaws any other way??). The "Hitchcockian" suspense, the fantastic Long Island seaside cottage and the terrific casting provide the viewer with an unforgettable story; one wants to watch it more than once! Whoever owns the rights to this ...

One of David Cronenberg's finest movies!
In the early 50's, big city bug-exterminator/writer Bill Lee (Peter Weller) has been addicted to bug powder that causes him to hallucinate bizarre stuff such as giant bugs with talking retcums, alien-like creatures and many weird stuff. His wife Joan (Judy Davis) was accidently shot by him as he panics, he gets a one way ticket out of town to an Islamnic place called The Interzone where he can ...

A classic hell for leather road thriller.
A taut, terrically filmed duel of wits between a little boy and two hired killers who kidnapped him. The film contains strong performances and gripping camerawork and editing. An underseen 80's classic that was completely ripped off by Elmore Leonard in his novel "KILLSHOT." A must see for Roy Schiedler's icy turn as a hired killer with a samurai streak of honor and Baldwin's frightening ...

52 Pick Up is a great sleazy thriller
This is one of my favorite movies with Roy Schieder besides Jaws. It is a classic sleazy thriller with great villians, especially John Glover. The scene with the murder of the girl is hardcore and shocking. When I first saw this scene, I could not believe how real it was. It is something you never forget. I love how Roy turns the tables on the villians and turns them against each other. This ...

The Fourth War
The best element of this movie is the vintage Porsche 356 which Scheider's colonel character drives. Stanton's general is totally miscast, but his acting is superb. What really irked me was the failure to set the scene to at least look something like Germany. Other than some snow and evergreens, it was obviously filmed in the states or maybe Canada. The roads and building types are all wrong. ...

Worth Watching
I bought this movie on dvd because I remember seeing this movie on VHS quite some years ago and I really enjoyed it back then. I gave this movie 5 stars because the action and plot of this movie back then was original and the action was definitely something to talk about....I would advise getting this movie as it's worth every cent.

VICE PRESIDENT VALDEZ SAVES THE DAY
I think what's so surprisingly good about CHAIN OF COMMAND is its barefaced audacity to show us a pretty worthless president, and to allow awful things to happen because of personal greed and misguided justice. Roy Scheider plays the newly elected President, a man who is screwing his best friend's wife, and anything in skirts. Patrick Muldoon is a secret service agent who is tired of watching ...

Keeping it real
I have watched this movie since its release in 1976. I am very interested in the workings of government and the various methods it uses to gain access to information, capital gains, and the individual sources used for these purposes. I am a fan of Dustin Hoffman and the late Roy Sneider. I would recommend this movie for its insights and just for good movie viewing.

Always interested in the 1 star reviews...
... of great films like this. (And this is a great film.) Notice how all the 1 stars are from the 2000's. No special effects and no buildings blowing up or car chases just baffles many today. Character seems to be of little importance and suspense is now "boring". Don't force anyone to pay attention to the actual words of the script for information, just pictures for today's audience. And of ...

BEEN THERE DONE THAT
DAYBREAK has it's heart in the right place, and Ted McGinley (Happy Days, Married with Children) is always fun, as he belies his leading man looks and brawn with a childish innocence and awkward macho. However, looking at this movie on the whole: *Roy Scheider has succumbed to playing roles that require a toughness and in charge kind of person, but he lately seems rather bored with it all; *Ken ...
