Good News, DVD To Be Released Soon!
Many thanks to another review that provided a contact name and email address. I sent an email to Stuart Snaith many weeks ago, and just received a reply today (18 July 2008) from Liz Hammond. Liz said the problems over film rights have been resolved and the Enchanted April DVD is due to be released as soon as December 2008 or possibly as late as Spring 2009. I trust our long wait is coming to ...

The Jungle Book241 reviews
Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot

Walt Disney Video, 1997

Great film for kids and grown-ups, too
Having called a month-long time out on princess stuff, I ordered this hoping but not really believing it would replace Little Mermaid or Cinderella in my daughter's mind. But she loves it. She doesn't get to watch the whole thing often but I occasionally just cue up the songs and let her watch, sing along and dance to those. Definitely a solid choice for any home dvd collection.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas435 reviews
Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon

Walt Disney Video/Touchstone Home Video, 1997

Beautiful Blu Ray transfer of the Tim Burton fantasy...
Just finished watching the Blu Ray transfer of "The Nightmare Before Christmas", and it was absolutely gorgeous. The vivid colors, depth and clarity of the picture is one of the best catalog Blu Ray transfers I've seen thus far. At first, you can tell it looks great but the transfer really shows through when Jack Skellington enters Christmas Town for the first time...it's here where the colors ...

Pride and Prejudice DVD - Wonderful version of a classic
This is a fantastic version of the film. Collin Firth is wonderful to watch and convincingly arrogant, yet caring and sexy. The other actors are all funny and believable in their roles. A must buy! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005MP58/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title

Gone with the Wind711 reviews
Thomas Mitchell, Barbara O'Neil

MGM (Video & DVD), 1998

best film ever
simply the best film ever from start to finish it captures the imagination and despite its length you never want it too end. All the cast put in sterling peformances. Aside from all those classic scenes one of my very favourties is the scence between Hattie MacDaniel & Clark Gable after Bonnie is born particularly when they tease one another and mammie lifts her skirt to reveal the red ...

Fantasia (Walt Disney's Masterpiece)206 reviews
Leopold Stokowski, Deems Taylor

Walt Disney Home Video, 1992

Wow! The First Music Videos and For Classical Music Too!
This movie was clearly way ahead of its time when it was released in the early 1940s and I'm not surprised that it was a box-office flop at that time as it struck me while watching this that this must be the "Sgt. Pepper's" of animation at that time. Another major reason for the lack of success was that the logistics of the times were not up to scratch as few theatres were equiped with ...

To Kill a Mockingbird (Widescreen)364 reviews
Gregory Peck, John Megna

Universal Studios, 1998

Top Ten classic
"To Kill a Mockingbird" is a powerful, hugely well-acted film that should be on everyone's Top Ten and should be in every film collection. The book took me for a ride as a child, one of those rare books we were made to read in school that I could not put down; the film, with exemplary performances by Gregory Peck, Mary Badham and Brock Peters, is a searing treatise on social mores of the time and ...

Mary Poppins305 reviews
Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke

Walt Disney Home Video, 1997

"Bob's Your Uncle"
Released in `64 `Mary Poppins' is without question one of the most beloved movies in Disney's vast vault of wonderful family film classics. I was twelve years old when `Mary Poppins' made its theatrical debut and I must admit that I immediately fell madly in love with Julie Andrews. Obviously I wasn't the only one considering the fact that Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for Best Actress for ...

Scarlett (Special Collector's Editon)196 reviews
Joanne Whalley, Timothy Dalton

Hallmark, 1997

Scarlett, the book
Great book. Written in sense of "Gone with the Wind." Good character development. Really saw the growth of Scarlet, from self-centered child to caring young woman. Always had the feeling, unlike the film, that it was Scarlet and Rhett. Set in Irish history background.

Naughty Marietta18 reviews
Jeanette MacDonald, Nelson Eddy

MGM (Warner), 1998

I wish I could rate this movie 10 stars!
Naughty Marietta, winning the Oscar for Best Sound Recording in 1935, is the crown jewel of the Eddy/MacDonald films, holding a special place in anyone's heart that has ever had the pleasure of seeing it. It is esteemed as one of the best-loved operettas of all time, and that's saying a lot about this film. Made in 1935, and starring Hollywood's `Singing Sweethearts', Nelson Eddy and Jeanette ...

Sound of Music548 reviews
Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer

20th Century Fox, 1996

The Most Inspiring Musical Of The 20th Century.
In the 1960's Julie Andrews played a part in two of the most definitive musicals of the 20th Century. Disney's Mary Poppins and Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, both gave someone a clean cut fun and heart warming experience that had many people humming the songs for decades. Out of the two I would say The Sound of Music is the better and has left me with a huge level of admiration for ...
