Ignore the 1 & 2 star reviews
Forget the bad reviews you see here. Clearly this film went... swoosh... right over their heads. Not that these 1 & 2 star folks are dumb or anything, but this is an unusual film in that one has to ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION to what is on the screen plus you must LISTEN to what is being said... not the norm for most motion pictures these days. You cannot talk on your cell phone and get up for snacks ...

"This guy is weird. He don't even ask who the target is."
1958's "Murder by Contract" is a low-budget but highly effective noir thriller directed by Irving Lerner which tells the story of a cold-blooded killer who's an expert in the field of murder-for-hire. According to film noir author/historian Eddie Muller, certain scenes in this film inspired Martin Scorsese's direction of "Taxi Driver." You'll definitely notice similarities in the scenes of Vince ...

Above average "low-budget" actioner. Well acted and worth a look!
Like most "low-budget" films, THE CONTRACT suffers some of the usual problems one finds in indie films. Namely a wafer thin plot with lots of holes that require LOTS of imagination on the part of the viewer. But the script is decent and the acting doesn't come across as "acting". The characters are actually fairly well developed and not "wooden". The major problem is that the characters seem ...

The Contract
Lantern Lane Entertainment, 2001
Be careful what you wish for... especially if it's murder. A beautiful woman, drunk and despondent over her life, meets a sinister stranger in a bar. She rants about her boss, husband, baby-sitter, friend, and even a rude grocery clerk. He promises to solve all her problems, if she'll just sign her name on a napkin. She gives him her signature and thinks nothing of it, until the killings begin. In the spirit of a Hitchcock thriller, this tense ...
