Bridge of "Die"s
In BRIDGE TO NOWHERE, five teen Kiwis on a wilderness romp run afoul of a rural eccentric. He reacts at first by harrassing them from a distance, but things soon escalate to grisly proportions. After scenes of skinnydipping, boombox dancing and frivolity, the carefree city kids backpack toward their goal: the so-named bridge that's set in a non-populous area. Across it and a river is land ...

Snobbishness has never been so funny!
Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bou-quet) the social climbing queen of snobbery, is one of the funniest characters ever to emerge from prime time television. Whether she is planning her next candlelight supper, terrorising her neighbours, harassing her husband, or dealing with her decidedly downmarket extended family, her antics are sure to bring gaiety into the lives of old and new fans alike, and ...

Good addition for G & S fans
I wanted to see a professional performance of Pirates of Penzance since I am performing in a local production of it. This was helpful. Glad to have it.

Don't make 'em like that anymore!
If ever a film deserves the description of "cult film", The Bliss of Mrs Blossom is it. Largely ignored on its release in the late sixties (I can remember seeing it in a virtually deserted cinema in Baltimore) it is so much a product and reflection of its time that it probably started to date within a week of being finished. But that is part of its charm - the sounds, the colours, the art, the ...

East is East DVD
I've watched this film several times on TV and finally decided I wanted to buy it. It's set in England with a Pakistani father and an English mother. It deals with the problems associated with combining different cultures, especially for the children. There is language that many will find distasteful, but it's the way these people talk. There is also spousal abuse, but it actually is a dark ...

Touching, vibrant film about growing up.
Sidney Poitier stars as talented engineer Mark Thackeray, who decides to try teaching high school students. At least until he can land his dream job in the engineering field. The teenagers that he winds-up teaching, are incorrigible delinquents, from the rough slums of London's east-end. Thackeray gets off to a bad start, while trying to gain the respect of his troubled students. As a black ...

it would get a five in strangeness
I think it was a boy but when the movie was over I was totally certain. He/she really acted more girly than I do and I'm certain I'm a girl. This movie is very strangely done. I was surprised when the end came, very little to indicate an ending. English humor, low key and weird to an American. Like nothing I've ever seen. Not the best but not bad. Funny in a way. Confusing, too.

Charming and evocative of Egypt & Britain in the 20's.
In the same vein of quality as famous Agatha Christie films of the 80's (Death on the Nile and Death in Mesopotamia), this film helps you lose yourself in the glamorous atmosphere of North Africa in the 20's. The excellent cast of first-rate British (Wendy Hiller) and American (Eva Marie Saint) movie stars, combined with actual footage from the Valley of the Kings, the Temples at Luxor and ...

If you only ever own one....
If you only ever own just one Keeping up appearances tape, make it this one! This tape contains the number one (in my humble opinion) episode of all time....The QE11 Special episode. This one holds a special place in my heart as I used to work on board this ship. I received a letter from Geoffrey Hughes (Onslow), in which he said that this episode was the favorite of the cast as they actually got ...

Britcoms Rule!
Sex never strays far from the thoughts of those American sitcom-writers. But, there are TONS of Britcoms that have absolutely nothing to do with that subject and turn out HILARIOUS (e.g., "Keeping Up Appearances")! Patricia Routledge is brilliant as Hyacinth Bucket, and the show gets you in stitches! Buy it, buy it now!

A Proper Introduction to Hyacinth!
I ordered this video from amazon.com after watching the show on PBS for years. It truly ranks up there with Are You Being Served? and To the Manor Born. The video includes the first three episodes of the high- class show. Daddy's Fondness for Dairy Products introduces us to Hyacinth and her disfunctional family. The only dissapointment of the video is the absense of Emmet. He did not join the ...

Hyacinth Bucket in Her Best Performance Yet!
How to Enhance Your Husband's Retirement, from Keeping Up Appearances is yet another hilarious adventure of Hyacinth and Richard Bucket! The two begin their retirement by "yachting", at the insistence of Hyacinth. Of course, little did they know, their "outing" turns into disaster as usual. Compared to the other episodes of Keeping Up Appearances, this one will guarantee to make you laugh and ...

An amazing woman on screen
I eat sleep breathe and dream of Hyacinth Bucket. She is so goddamn hilarious....I just can't get over her manner and ways. Each time I watch an episode...albeit a rerun...I get tickled. I manage to find something funny each time. Bravo Hyacinth....

Keeping Up Appearances: Giftset 2
If you love to laugh, you will love these videos! Very English, it's a collection of the wildly popular TV Series about Hyacinth Bucket (she insists it's prounounced "Bouquet") and her attempts at social climbing. Her family, neighbors, friends, and the nervous mailman become part of her adventures in spite of themselves. My parents first saw these on a cruise, and have been fans ever since. ...

Classic early episodes of a hilarious Britcom treasure!
What a treat! Not only are these collector's episodes because they feature the original "Rose," but they are also some of the funniest episodes of the show ever broadcast. "A Fate Worse Than Senility" has poor Hyacinth trying to save Dipsy Daddy from marriage. "Our Daisy and Her Toy Boy" (my personal all-time favorite episode) has Daisy taking on an 18 year old lover and turning into a Harley ...
